Our February visit was planned and booked, and the members were collected a little earlier than usual as we were off to the South West of the county, which is the other side of the city for us and we were all eagerly anticipating the delights of the evening that waited for us.
The restaurant is on the corner of Lutterworth Road and the access road into the Iceland supermarket carpark providing an abundance of free parking after 6.00 pm, so that was a good start. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, but for our visit, it lacked any atmosphere due to there being no other customers or activities going on throughout our stay. This was surprising as on the evening that we were there they have a special offer of buy one main dish and get one main dish free, which you would imagine should be sufficient to tempt a few locals in on those nights.
We were welcomed and shown to our table, our waiter was friendly and accommodating, the service was good, but that was to be expected with so little else for the two waiters to be occupied with.
The obligatory papadams and pickle trays were ordered and presented, which we enjoyed while selecting our dishes from the extensive menu. We decided on one Chicken Jalfrezi at phal heat with a side of coriander, one Chicken Saagwala, one Chicken Naga, one Mixed Madras Amritsari and one Lamb Shabji Bahar with one Plain Nan, one, Cheese and Onion nan, one Keema and Cheese nan, one Boiled Rice, One Vegetable Rice and one Onion Fried Rice.
The food when it arrived was plentiful, hot and well up to the standard of many of the restaurants that we get to visit in our quest to find the best Indian food available in Leicestershire and for that reason there is no reason not to try this establishment if you are in the area and looking for an Indian meal.
The establishment has been under the same ownership for nine years and is obviously surviving, but it was a pity that we were totally on our own for our visit, so it lacked the usual ambience and bustle of a busier and possibly more successful restaurant.
Whilst the dining room is comfortable and pleasant; the toilets are in need of a refurbishment to complement and enhance the overall impression of the premises. The bill for five people was £120.00, but almost half of that was for the drinks, as the Kingfisher was very tasty that night, so the price of the food with the 2 for 1 offer was reasonable.
