Chef’s Flavour Glenfield is the second chef’s flavour; the first in Leicester was our October 2019 visit (see https://www.leicestercurryclub.co.uk/reviews/october-2019/), which nearly won that year. It went on to be a regular visit for some of us, our families and friends.
We have previously been to this restaurant in Glenfield when it was under other ownership as Shant (2021) Sands (2011). The restaurant maintains an openness and glass feel. It has a bar area with seating where we waited (a little too long) for our table. Choices for our group included Madri, Sagre, Kingfisher on draught (All £5.49 a pint), Heineken Zero and Mango Lassi.
We ordered the crispy fried aubergine starter, which was nice (we thought the version at The Little Bar and Grill bettered it, though). The chef also produced salt and pepper fish and spicy prawns. These were all excellent, but very filling before our mains.
The hot combo tawa was fiery. The lamb rogan josh was tender, simmered to perfection with a balance of spices that enhanced rather than overwhelmed the meat. Another standout was the hari mirchi ka gosht, which offered a robust heat. Although described as on the dry side, it had a thick gravy that wasn’t to my liking.
Accompanying these mains was an assortment of rice and bread, each bringing unique textures and flavours to complement the meal. The vegetable rice was fresh, the peas pilau rice added a subtle sweetness, and the steamed rice served as a perfect base for the rich, flavourful sauces. Not to be overlooked, the garlic coriander naan and peshawari naan nicely flavoured and cooked in the tandoor oven.
The consensus among our group was that it continued the great cooking from the original restaurant in Leicester and would be on our repeat visit list.
