Wednesday 3rd June 2026. Visit number 170.
Our June outing took us up the A47 to visit the Bewicke Arms, a traditional grade II listed building. The Bewicke Arms is a modern take on the traditional English Inn – set on the border of Leicestershire & Rutland, in the picturesque village of Hallaton.
How would this quintessential English pub stack up as an Indian restaurant?
Its only 30 minutes from Leicester if you take the short way, plenty of parking and all set in a beautiful village.
We were greeted by the very knowledgeable host and ordered beers from the bar before being shown to our table that was just set back from the bar in a very nice area.
Poppadoms were of a good standard and the 2 pickle tray were nice and fresh.
We ordered 2 Garlic Chilli Lamb, 1 hot and one standard, a Lamb Tawa (hot), a Chicken Tikka Biryani (extra Hot) and a Lamb Jalfrezi. 2 X Mushroom Rice, Plain Naan, Peshwari Naan and a plain Naan.
The food was of a good standard and the plates were warmed to accompany the nice crockery. Its personal taste we know but the Tawa was a little dry, however some restaurants do serve it like that. All the other meals were enjoyed with the exception of the Jalfrezi that was not to our members taste as he commented that it was a little bland. All members commented that the drinks were on the expensive side and the bill for the 5 of us was £190.75, (£38 PP including drinks) quite a lot more than we usually pay.
Overall a very nice establishment with good food and the service was very good and attentive. The owner is knowledgeable about Indian food and establishments within their marketplace.
Please do give it a try if you fancy a trip out there and as always let us know your thoughts.
