207 Uppingham Rd, Leicester LE5 4BQ
31.5/40
Our February visit was to a restaurant on Uppingham Road, which was found via a website search, and upon reading the reviews, thought we’d give it a try.
It is situated on a busy road so parking can be a problem – parking is available near Humberstone Park a short walk away, or on one of the nearby side roads.
Upon entering, our first impressions were, not your usual curry restaurant, as it is decorated with traditional artifacts, and statue figures, creating a very different vibe to our usual dining experience.
The restaurant was very quiet, and a little on the cold side – although there was an electric heater that we brought up to the table – the waitress did in fact have gloves on.
We ordered drinks and then perused the menu which was actually stuck to the table (intentionally)… three pints of draught Cobra and a Lassi were soon brought over and very welcoming they were too.
The waitress was very polite, attentive, and friendly, and answered any questions that we had.
We ordered the statutory poppadom’s and pickle trays, and were told that there would be a slight delay as these are made fresh – when they arrived they were crispy, fresh and very enjoyable.
Three different Mains were ordered, those being Chicken & Lamb Biryani, Palak Chicken, and two Lamb Haryanvi Special Lamb Curries. All dishes were well presented, fresh and extremely flavoursome. The disappointment was that all meat was served on the bone – this is not a criticism of the restaurant, just an observation that we were not aware of it… there was no mention of this on the menu or by the staff.
The accompaniments we chose were a Jeera Rice, and a Garlic Rice, along with two Cheese/Chilli Naan’s, which were all good.
The staff were very friendly and always had a smile on their faces. The service was excellent, although at times a little slow.
As you will know by now, we do not partake in desserts so requested the bill which was presented to us without fuss, no mints, or chocolates, just a smile and a thank-you. The total cost was less than £80 for the four of us which was exceptional value for the quality of the food… they take cash or card.
A couple of messages that I received the following morning from our members were;
Its 8.5 for me, flavour, and great chicken meat.
I’m at 7.75, mainly boosted by service and price – food was tasty but not much meat.
I am at 7.5, wasn’t sure at first, but they delivered – there was only two pieces of lamb hence my score, shame really.
Some great comments and feedback for both the restaurant and our followers.
Overall, a very enjoyable meal with friendly service, although with a little more meat, and more staff, the score would have been higher.
Please note as always, our reviews are personally subjective and isn’t necessarily what others may think or experience when they visit.
