Amrut Indian Dining proclaims itself to be ‘’ The Finest Indian Restaurant in Leicester.’’
That’s a bold statement for any restaurant to make and one that takes some living up to, so did Amrut Indian Dining live up to it’s claim?
Well, if it did it would have won this years annual certificate for the highest scoring Indian Restaurant presented by our club following twelve monthly excursions looking to find the best that Leicester has to offer from a selection of restaurants that we have not visited in previous years.
Our awards are subjective, they reflect the experiences of five individuals with differing tastes, but each one appreciating and taking into account the quality and flavour of their meal, the accompaniments, the service received, the surroundings and value for money.
I’m sorry to report that this restaurant has finished a lowly eleventh out of twelve visits this year, so no unfortunately, it did not live up to it’s claim.
It was a Wednesday evening and it was pleasing to see that the restaurant was fairly busy which is usually a good sign. We were shown to our table and having ordered our drinks, they weren’t long in arriving, shortly followed by poppadoms and a couple of relish trays.
Our meal order consisted of one Shahi Chicken Biriani, a Hyderbadi Lamb Biriyani, a Nialli Mahari, and two Amrut Junction Lamb Curries. As the Biryanis come with rice, we had one portion of boiled rice to share, one plain nan, one garlic Coriander Nan and one Peshawri Nan to accompany the mains.
The comments from the collective were:
‘’Poppadoms and relishes were good;’’
‘’Not well organised, wrong dishes brought to our to our table and missing drinks;’’
‘’Nothing like its Instagram profile, cheaply decorated, Biryani nice but a bit too oily;’’
‘’Nice meat, but flavour somewhat bland.’’
These were our findings, was it an off night, did we choose the wrong dishes or do others find similar issues? Please don’t be put off by our review and try for yourself, we would be pleased to hear some positive reviews by other diners.
Unfortunately each restaurant that we visit only gets one chance to impress and we have to tell it as we experience it on the night. Hopefully others will enjoy their evening better than we did, but for us I’m afraid that we won’t be taking our partners or friends there to try again.
