December is obviously the last month of the year and if I am honest we had a clear winner since September but never one to give up and a little tip from a family member took us to Avatar in Market Harborough. This was perhaps the furthest we have travelled especially in thick fog! It was well worth the journey and what a fantastic place this was. We were greeted by the waiter and taken to a round table which was a rare treat, the restaurant was full for a Thursday night which always gives us confidence, we have been to so many restaurants over the years where sometimes we are the only ones in there.

Avatar is a Nepalese & Indian restaurant which was smartly decorated, clean and well organised and has been in Market Harborough for 10 years. The staff were all very attentive and could not do enough for us, usually we are chasing waiters for drinks or to take our order but not tonight. We didn’t order poppadom’s but they were put on our table along with pickles including lime pickle and a salad which was a great start to the night. We also ordered draught Cobra which was very cold…just perfect! One of our members did have to send back his diet coke as it was flat which was a shame.

We ordered our mains which consisted of 2x Avatar Special Lamb, Chicken Jalfrezi, Garlic Chilli Chicken and a Patiyala Chicken. One of our members said the lamb was the tenderest he had ever had in an Indian restaurant and my Garlic Chilli Chicken was the best I have ever had. We ordered Naan’s including Plain, Cheese & Chilli and a Peshawar with Mango & Coconut which was amazing.

We also ordered plain and mushroom rice, there were no complaints from anyone, we were all very impressed and after we left the restaurant and did the scoring, we realised Avatar was the winner for 2022. None of us expected Avatar to beat the previous leader so it just shows that these great restaurants are still out there. A great night and a great win, full credit to all the staff and we will be back later in the month to hand over their award and have our winning meal.
