The month of October 2025 brought us a long overdue visit to Mem Saab on Vaughan Way in Leicester city centre. Parking was easy using the Highcross multi-story car park immediately over the road.
The restaurant is well appointed, well laid out, tastefully decorated and comfortable. We were given a warm, attentive welcome on arrival and were promptly shown to our table with our drinks order being taken and delivered efficiently.
The service provided remained at this level throughout the evening, we were looked after well without being fussed. This was a pleasant experience as the restaurant was busy with individual dinner parties at various tables and a large private party in the separate dinning area reserved for such occasions. The staff coped very well with the demands of the evening and we didn’t see any surrounding tables waiting any length of time for their meals.
We had asked for papodoms and pickle trays, which arrived and our order for the meals was taken at the same time. We had chosen two Railway Lamb Curries, one Chicken Chattinad, one Dum Biryani and although it wasn’t on the menu, one Lamb Tawa which they were happy to accommodate without any trouble, for our main dishes with a Stuffed Kulcha, a Peshwari Naan, a Plain Naan and two Mushroom and Onion Rice dishes to accompany the mains.
Four out of the five in our little club thought that the food was nothing short of excellent and our fifth member declared it to be very good, so the overall reflection was very satisfying. We have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to our faithful readers if they want to treat their partners or arrange a good meal with friends or family.
The price was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive that we have experienced, but the value for money rated highly, we have paid more for lesser meals more than once in the past. There is a discretionary 10% service charge added to the bill, which we considered to be very acceptable for what we received. Our meal for five cost £186.39 around £60.00 of which was for our drinks.
