We had a little trip out to Narborough for our November curry experience and we enjoyed a pleasant evening at The Cardamom Lounge in Narborough. The reputation for this curry house had been built up by our host, yours truly, based upon one previous visit and the excellent lamb chops that I had enjoyed there.

There was an air of expectation among us as one other member of the club is also a lamb chop enthusiast and when he asked the waiter how many chops were provided in this succulent dish he received the response that they didn’t have any lamb chops as they weren’t on the previous days delivery!

Imagine our disappointment and the sudden reaching for menus again by the two lamb chop devotees! Alternative selections were made and orders placed with the waiter. In the meantime, we had been enjoying pappadoms and a fine pickle tray, two trays were asked for, as one is rarely enough and two trays arrived which proved to be just sufficient for our needs. The sauces were very tasty and different to our usual expectations.

Orders were placed for two Sizzler Specials, one Chicken Tawa, one Tandoori Murghi Masala and one Lamb Nihar together with assorted rice, nans and side sauces including two Madras and one ‘hot as you can make it’ phal sauce. It was generally agreed that the food was very good, but it was the most expensive meal that we have had this year by a noticeable margin and none of our members were sufficiently impressed to think that the evening warranted a premium. To be fair to the restaurant though they do offer a special four-course meal from Sunday to Thursday for only £9.95 per person which we chose not to take advantage of.

The restaurant is nicely appointed, clean and tidy with more than adequate space and ample car parking on site. The service was speedy and attentive without being exceptional, so we were all more than satisfied with our overall impression of the venue and the food. Our scores awarded showed that it has rated slightly above average for the year currently lying in joint fourth place with thirty points and only one more venue to visit.
