We visited this Indian pub restaurant on a Wednesday evening and, from the outset, the place felt a little uninviting and cold. The atmosphere was flat, which may simply have been down to the mid-week timing, but it didn’t create the warm welcome you hope for.
We started with ten poppadoms and a pickle tray that included chilli, mint, and mango sauces. They were fine, although the pickle tray was a bit different to what we’re used to. Mains ordered were Garlic Chilli Lamb Karahi, Chicken Jalfrezi, Lamb Madras and Chicken Tagine Pots with a selection of rice and naan breads. The naan and rice were both acceptable, but the chicken tagine puzzled our diner —the mean was like chicken meatballs, and a quick look at the menu afterwards showed it should have been served with seasoned chips, which it wasn’t.
Service was friendly and about what you’d normally expect. Drinks included Peroni Zero, Coke Zero and a round of Cruzcampo beers, which kept things ticking along even if the food didn’t truly stand out.
Prices felt a little high for the overall experience. With the bill coming to £173.89 for the table, a couple of us felt this didn’t quite match the quality.
Opinions around the group varied slightly, but the general theme was similar:
– One rated it a 7 but said the place itself wasn’t great.
– Another enjoyed their meal and scored an 8.
– Someone else came in at 6.5, saying their curry tasted of paste
– My own view sits around a 6: average food, ok service, but nothing particularly memorable.
Altogether, it was a bit disappointing and one we wouldn’t rush back for. The food was acceptable, the service was fine, but the atmosphere and consistency of the dishes just didn’t quite hit the mark.
Give it a try and let us know what you think?
