If Fawlty Towers was an Indian restaurant, we found it this month. It even won the Restaurant of the Year 2020/21 at the Leicester Curry Awards – https://leicestercurryawards.com/winners-2020-21

As you may know, club rules allow us to revisit a restaurant if it has changed owners. We last visited Indian Fusion in June 2014. I rang and was told it had changed owners, so I went ahead and booked.

We arrived at 7.30pm. On arrival, we were asked to sit in the bar area, which is often seen as a nice way to settle in and read the menus. However, we were not offered drinks or the menus but left here to wait. Eventually, we were taken through to the dining area. By 8.30, we still had no food; when the food did arrive, the service was still left short. I had to find the salt pots for myself, and getting drinks was hard work.

The food was different to what we expected or experienced in the past – unfortunately not for the better. The Tawa dishes were served in a regular bowl when you’d expect a flat dish.

Finally, there is a 50% off deal on food when dining in on Monday and Tuesdays. Overall, however, our bill was the same as most other restaurants, so we felt the prices would be very expensive on a non-offer night.

On the night, a waiter said it hadn’t changed owners, and he’d been there from day 1; subsequently, members investigations found it wasn’t a valid restaurant to revisit. However, this place would likely come towards the end of the table this year based on the scores on the night.

Although the scores will not be allowed to stand in this year’s table, they were noted as 6, 5.5, 5.5, 5 and 4, giving an overall score of 21—one of our lowest scoring evenings over the years.

And yet award-winning with the Leicester Curry Awards. It just shows you! Maybe the red carpet came out for that visit?
