60 Station Rd, Glenfield, Leicester LE3 8BQ
27/40
When you have visited as many Indian restaurants as we have you find yourself revisiting restaurants you have already been to under previous ownership. So in September 2021 we went to Shant in Glenfield having previously visited in the same building Sands way back in November 2011 when the score was 33/40 against a sore this time of 27/40.
The new owner who unfortunately took the restaurant over just before the pandemic started had a tough start to trading but luckily the takeaway side of the business kept them ticking over. It’s quite a large restaurant and is in a good shape inside with a large well stocked bar.
We were greeted upon arrival and had a drink in the bar before being shown to our table then ordered the usual poppadom’s and pickle trays which were fine. We then ordered 2 Lamb Chop Curry madras strength, 1 Chicken Tawa madras, 1 Chicken Hydrabadi very hot, a Chicken Channa Saag and various rice and naans. The Channa was well liked, the Tawa was average, the Hydrabadi was hot as requested and well liked, the Lamb chops were very hot but as one of our members said they were hot but not particularly very tasty.
The restaurant was soulless really and considering we were the only customers in that evening we felt it lacked any personal touch, in fact we had to go and find the owner to ask for some drinks which we have never had to do ever before. Considering we only had two drinks – which is another first, the bill was £133 (£27 per head) which is quite pricy with only 2 drinks each.
Room for improvement was our summary.
