I had chosen a restaurant for March, then we had to postpone March’s outing. When re-arranged, the original was closed for Ramadan, so I had to look for a new restaurant. I had seen Momma’s Kitchen on social media, and it looked great. You can find them on Instagram and Facebook with lots of photos and videos of their open kitchen.
The restaurant has no alcohol – it’s not licensed or bring your own.
We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed great service all night. We took our table, had nice poppadom’s, ordered and went next door for a drink before going back 30 minutes later when the food was freshly prepared and ready for us. If you like a beer with your curry, this is a good way to enjoy both.
Poppadom’s seemed expensive at £1 each, and we had the condiments, which were small but nice.
We had 2 Chicken Jalfrezi, “Desi” hot for the mains – we found this very hot but nice; we thought you could really tell the flavours and fresh ingredients – and very little oil in the dish. We also had Lamb chops (and pilau rice) and Chicken Hariyali Kebab, which came with naan and fries.
We ordered the Jalfrezi Fries for something different, and these were enjoyed by all and recommended.
Overall great food and friendly service. We enjoyed going somewhere a bit different. An excellent addition to Allandale Road. I think scores would have been higher overall if it was licensed. Momma’s Kitchen is available for takeaway and also on the delivery apps now too – give it a try the food is great.
