I decided we had to try Tandem on this month’s visit as I was looking to find a new curry house to try and it’s getting harder each month as we draw close to 120 restaurants in Leicester. Tandem pitches itself as slightly above your average curry restaurant with two floors and a well-stocked bar with cocktails and fine dining, situated in the heart of the Highcross shopping centre, with easy parking across the road.
On arrival we were taken to our table and offered drinks, we went for Peroni and Kingfisher, all on draught, just the way we like. We then ordered poppadoms and a pickle tray for four, as one of our members was away on business. They served basically 3 poppadoms cut into halves to make 6 between four and a very small amount of pickles, which was disappointing as we would usually order ten between five of us. I guess when you’re fine dining you must expect things to be different, but this didn’t go down very well at all.
We ordered two Chicken Jalfrezi and two Lamb Kadai. The lamb was very tasty (although one member had some fat in one of them), and the Jalfrezi was excellent. Overall, the food was beautifully presented and the restaurant was excellent inside and out, but it lacked a little soul and there was no music playing which was a shame. We also ordered Chapatti, Chilli Garlic Roti and a Masala Cheese Naan which were all absolutely great, along with lemon rice and jeera rice. The food was great as you would expect, and the bill was £110 for four of us, we expected to pay more for the setting and location.
Fully recommend if you are taking your partner out for a nice meal on a special occasion.
