This was our first visit of 2022 to start the assessment of this years ‘Curry Restaurant of the Year’ competition and eventual award in December this year.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with our quest, we have been carrying out reviews and compiling results for some eleven years or so now at the rate of one every month, other than when interruptions have prevented caused by Covid lockdowns, to find and promote what in our humble, collective opinion is the best of the year. We visit a different establishment every month and we have never visited the same venue twice other than on the very rare occasion when a change in ownership has occurred.
It is a compelling and ever demanding task requiring dedication, devotion and unreserved impartiality, which we feel obliged to carry out as a social service to report to our fellow, local curry lovers and to honour the long established tradition here in Leicester of enjoying the variety and distinctly tantalising flavours of Indian cuisine.
We ventured to the charming village of Quorn to sample the offerings available at Tandoori Empire on the High Street in the heart of the enclave of eateries comprising restaurants and Pubs all in close proximity. This restaurant is not licensed, but you are encouraged to bring your own alcohol, if that is your preference, for which glasses are readily provided by the attentive staff.
The menu is extensive with several dishes that we have not often found elsewhere, so some deliberation and consideration ensued while we decided on our choices for our meals. Tonight we were unfortunately down to four members, as one of our party was suffering from a post Christmas migraine and was incapacitated to the point of being unable to overcome his discomfort sufficiently to allow him to join us.
We finally settled on the main dishes of Chicken Nobabi, Chicken Tika Tawa, Lamb Tika Tawa all Madras hot and Chicken Jalfrezi Vindaloo strength. For sundries we chose one cheese and tomato nan, one plain nan, two boiled and one vegetable rice.
Whilst choosing we enjoyed popadoms with the customary pickle tray.
It was a pleasant surprise when we were brought a complimentary portion of pakora to try while waiting for the main dishes.
We were all pleased with our choices, the food was very tasty, hot, freshly prepared and plentiful. We enjoyed the restaurant with its intimate, relaxing setting complemented by attentive and efficient service provided by friendly and enthusiastic staff.
It is well worth a visit if you are in the area or even take the trouble to travel to this attractive establishment to enjoy a relaxed and enjoyable evening out.
