Upon entering “My Delhi”, the newest addition to Leicester’s Indian restaurant scene, we were immediately impressed with the vibrant colours and fragrances.
We ordered two baskets of poppadoms, a modern twist on the classic starter. While initially sceptical of straying from tradition, we were pleasantly surprised. These poppadoms were fresh, non-oily, and served quickly with a nice assortment of dips and sauces, including a unique house special. Overall, we would have probably preferred a couple of poppadoms each, though, I think.
The Kadhai Gosht was a revelation, tender pieces of lamb in a robust gravy, rich with spices and cooked to perfection, reminiscent of home cooking I think. Similarly, the Railway Station Lamb Curry had deep, complex flavours transporting us to the bustling railways where such recipes were born and perfected.
Lucknow’s Royal Chicken Biryani was a delicious and large portion. Both of us, with this, took 1/2 home! The rice grains, each separate and perfumed with exotic spices, shared the bowl with a chicken that was succulent and tender.
No Indian meal can be complete without the bread that complements the curry, and the Peshwari Naan at “My Delhi” was simply the best two of our members had ever tasted. Stuffed with nuts and sweetened ever so slightly, it was perfect.
An unexpected delight was the complimentary Butter Chicken served to us. The smoky richness of the sauce, paired with tender chicken, was unanimously loved. It possessed an authenticity that is often sought but seldom found, with a depth of flavour that I can still taste in my mind!
In conclusion, “My Delhi” offers a meal and experience that is full of flavour, great recipes, food to be savoured and good service. For those seeking somewhere new to try, we highly recommend this. Almost the end of the year, My Delihi has jumped to the top of the leaderboard for this year’s award. We are next out in early December when we will know who wins the award!
