Khazana is located on Leicester Road in Loughborough directly next door to Salim’s which we reviewed back in September 2012 with a score of 34/40. It appears that Khazana has the same management and Salim’s has been taken over but kept its name.

Out of all the establishments that we have visited this place surely has the best décor and ambiance, fresh and bright with very nice table lights and linen. The ideal place to entertain clients or family.

A very extensive menu with some nice surprises on there, (i.e. a red Leicester cheese naan) a little different to the usual establishments. What a start, great ambiance, and a great menu! This was the last visit of the year, could this restaurant be the 2023 winner?

So, we started with usual poppadom’s and a nice pickle tray with 5 different pickles and ordered the mains.

We ordered a Vindaloo chicken, a chicken Calcutta karai, a lamb madras club, a lamb chops bhuna and a chicken sylheti. Rice’s were 1 boiled rice, 1 saag rice and 1 vegetable rice and naans were, 2 red Leicester naans and a chilli naan with no butter.

The food order took quite a long time however the restaurant was very busy for a Tuesday evening which is actually a good sign, we’ve been the only customers sometimes in other establishments, so it was nice to see a busy place. The food was delivered in two lots with not too much time between the services. One dish was not particularly hot (heat) but the food was of a very good standard and my lamb chops bhuna was a really nice dish.

Very nice to see draught Cobra on tap and a very nice new IPA which we tried on a complimentary basis. This restaurant also offers non-alcoholic lager.

Last month “My Delhi” had jumped to the top of the leader board, and I hoped that Khazana could eclipse it so please read on to see who will be crowned the 2023 winner!
