The Bay Leaf is a new restaurant in Wigston. Located conveniently with plenty of parking at the rear, which is free after 6pm. A modern clean interior with air conditioning. On our visit we were welcomed and sat near the window. It was a little cold even but the air conditioning was turned down and it warmed up!
One of the standout aspects of The Bay Leaf was its service. From the moment we walked through the door, the staff were attentive and professional. There was more than 4 waiting staff on the night despite being a small restaurant. The plentiful staff ensured drinks orders were taken frequently, with ice-cold beer and a good selection of non-alcoholic options like Cobra Zero, which was a hit with our group.
It’s rare to encounter service that runs so seamlessly, and this is what truly sets The Bay Leaf apart. Every detail was carefully managed, and the staff went out of their way to make sure our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable.
When it comes to the food, the experience was largely positive, though with one notable exception. The House Chicken Curry and Chicken Biryan were definite crowd-pleasers, packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. The Peppered Lamb, while beautifully presented, did receive some mixed feedback. One diner found the lamb to be stringy, with too much bone and fat, and the spice level in the Madras was so overpowering that it masked any subtlety of flavour.
However, this was the only real downside to what was otherwise an excellent meal. The naan bread, particularly the garlic and coriander option, was fantastic – soft, flavourful, and perfectly baked. The mushroom rice was another favourite, complementing the curries beautifully. I usually ask for a side of coriander which was no problem, but I was surprised to be charged £1 for this without a mention.
The Bay Leaf combines a modern aesthetic with a warm and inviting vibe. While some diners felt that the lighting was a little too bright, the restaurant’s clean lines and contemporary decor helped create a refined yet comfortable dining space. With a classy ambiance and enough space to accommodate a steady flow of guests, it’s clear why this restaurant is becoming a firm favourite in the area.
In conclusion, The Bay Leaf is incredibly close to being a winning dining experience. Its excellent service, inviting atmosphere, and generally delicious food make it a strong contender for the top spot in any restaurant roundup. While there were a couple of minor critiques, especially concerning the lamb dish, they are certainly fixable and did not overshadow the overall quality of the meal.
