82 Faire Rd, Glenfield, Leicester LE3 8ED
26/40
Sameeha was our 82nd curry house that we have visited and advertises itself as an authentic Indian restaurant and is situated on Faire Road which is within a residential area in Glenfield. There is plenty of on-street parking and is situated amongst a row of shops including an off licence which is ideal as the premises are not licensed to sell alcohol.
The decor and the layout was very nice and thought the white feature wall and the chairs worked well together. We were greeted on arrival and shown to our table, we were the only diners at this point. Once seated we asked a nearby waiter for some glasses but he just said “yes” and continued wiping another table, he did not turn his head towards us. We were then brought four half pint glasses by another gentleman which were not large enough to hold a can of beer, so as the tables are quite small we had to leave the half emptied cans on the table too which was not ideal.
The menus were of good quality, but having looked at the website on our return, the prices were over 25% more than what was shown on the website. The website also has a large banner stating 3 courses for £10.95pp Monday to Thursday… unfortunately we were not offered this deal? Bearing in mind alot of the restaurants that we visit are not recommended to us, we often rely on search engines and websites so it was very disappointing to see a huge difference in pricing.
We ordered two poppadoms each + pickles but had to order more pickles as there was not sufficient for eight poppadoms… and like many Indian restaurants the plates were a little too small.
We then ordered the mains and one of our members asked the waiter for a recommendation of a lamb or chicken dish that was slightly less than madras strength… unfortunately the waiter stood looking at the menu for many seconds without talking and did not offer a suggestion.
We found the food to be ok… the Cashew Chicken dish was a little runny and was lacking in chicken, the slow cooked lamb dish was found to be very tasty but a little too mild (having asked for slightly less than madras strength) and the two chicken Tawa’s were again ok but not as good as the majority of the other Tawa’s that we’d had previously.
The food took a very long time to arrive which was ok for us but again might put some people off returning. Overall I would say we had an average night and the scores reflected this only ranking 10th out of 12 for 2017.
