January 2023 – Nice and Spice

Our first visit for 2023 was a unique one. Set inside the Leicester Railwaymens Club & Institute on the corner of Leicester Street and East Park Road. On entering, it feels like you are walking into a bygone era, a huge club with reception desks. The building is vast with a function room, club room, darts, skittles, snooker, and a well-stocked and well ran bar. Being a club, we were asked to sign in at the bar. Football was on, and there were a few people in tonight. I imagined what it might have been like in the 70s and 80s full most nights. It was already great to experience this unique club.

The Leicester Curry Club 2022 Winner

It was a close run contest again at the end of the year with a clear favourite already established and expected by all of us to win, but a December visit to Market Harborough changed things by the smallest of margins at the last minute. Following that visit we had our 2022 Leicester Curry Club winner, as voted for by our team of unbiased and enthusiastic self proclaimed ‘curry connoisseurs’ which we all know, might not be the best recommendation, but without wishing to appear pretentious it will have to do for the purpose of our research and resulting reviews.

August 2022 – Twenty1, Leicester

Currently, the scoring puts this in the lead this year – the food was undoubtedly the best I’ve had this year. With a focus on the service, I’m sure this will be a destination Indian restaurant for Leicestershire.

We are all keen to return together or with friends and family, and we’ll update here how we get on. Try it and let us know how you find it too!

June 2022 – Zaika Restaurant, Blaby

Our June excursion this year involved a trip to Blaby, which is the far side of Leicester to where we are based. It proved to be a worthwhile journey as we enjoyed both the ambience and the food. The décor at the Zaika restaurant is tasteful, the accommodation is plentiful and comfortable with dining rooms on two floors and more than enough parking available on the doorstep.

May 2022 – Taraj Palace, Syston

Taraj Palace is situated on the main Melton Road in Syston and has a small car park at the rear of the restaurant, there is limited on street parking although there is a large car park around 70 metres away. It has recently been refurbished and has had a change of ownership, so I thought now is the time to see how it rated.
